On November 8, 2024, a significant STE(A)M-focused event was held as part of the TKAEDiTE (Transforming the Kosovo and Albanian Education System by Introducing Digital Technology in Teacher Education) project. The event took place at the University of Tirana and the Polytechnic University of Tirana, engaging K1-9 teachers in a day of innovative STE(A)M activities.
The day began at the Faculty of Economy, University of Tirana, where EU partners and participants were welcomed. Opening remarks were delivered to set the stage for the day’s agenda. This was followed by a meeting with Professor Bernard Dosti, the Dean of the Faculty of Economy, who provided a tour of the facilities, showcasing the resources available for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Later in the morning, the participants moved to the Faculty of Information Technology at the Polytechnic University of Tirana. Here, Professor Elinda Kajo Meçe, the Dean, hosted another engaging session and facility tour, emphasizing the role of technology in modern education.
After a lunch break, the afternoon sessions commenced with the registration of participants at the Polytechnic University of Tirana. The focus then shifted to workshops designed to enhance STEM teaching methodologies. Professor Laru and Professor Iiris Kivioja from the University of Oulu led the first workshop, “Enhancing STE(A)M Teaching,” which explored innovative approaches to teaching STEM subjects effectively.
Following this, Professor Mexhid Ferati and Professor Fisnik Dalipi from Linnaeus University delivered an insightful session on “Inclusive STEM.” The workshop was divided into three parts, covering the Universal Design for Learning framework, an inclusive STEM course curriculum, and the development of inclusive STEM learning materials. These sessions underscored the importance of accessibility and equity in STEM education.
The day concluded with a wrap-up discussion led by the facilitators, providing an opportunity for participants to share insights and reflect on the practical applications of the concepts covered during the workshops. The event marked a step forward in equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge needed to foster STEM education in their classrooms.
On the same day, Katarina Ronndahl from Linnaeus University (LNU) led an insightful round table discussion with financial officers from the University of Tirana and Polytechnic University of Tirana, engaging them in discussions and gaining practical insights from the LNU perspective.
